Mermaid Inn - A 600-year-old Tudor inn in Rye with a 2 AA Rosette restaurant, historic rooms, and secret passageways

Built in 1420, the 3-star Mermaid Inn offers a unique historic experience with 31 individually named rooms, some featuring four-poster beds, sloping ceilings, and views of Rye's medieval citadel. Each room includes free Wi-Fi, tea and coffee facilities, and en-suite bathrooms with free toiletries. Guests at The Mermaid Inn can dine in the 2 AA Rosette Linen Fold Panelled Restaurant, which serves seasonal local produce, or enjoy drinks in the Giants Fireplace Bar with over 60 gins and 90 whiskies. The property is 500 meters from Rye's center, close to landmarks such as Rye Castle Museum and St. Mary's Church. Rye Station is a 5-minute walk, and London Gatwick is 100 km away. Pets are allowed in rooms by prior arrangement.

Pros

The historic architecture includes secret passageways, Tudor bars, and an original fireplace from the 15th century.

The 2 AA Rosette restaurant serves locally sourced dishes, with options for private dining in the Boardroom or Dr Syn Dining Room.

The central location provides easy access to Rye's cobbled streets, independent shops, and nearby nature reserves.

Monthly guided tours offer insights into the 600-year-old building's history.

Cons

Some rooms feature uneven floors and low ceilings due to the historic architecture.

Limited on-site parking (25 spaces), with public parking nearby at an additional cost.
