The Lion Hotel Shrewsbury - A historic 16th-century building with classic comforts, event spaces, and dog-friendly policies

The Lion Hotel Shrewsbury, a Grade 1 listed building dating back to 1618, features 59 uniquely styled rooms, including standard doubles, twins, and suites like the Dickens Suite with original 16th-century beams. The Hayward Restaurant serves British cuisine with locally sourced ingredients, and dogs are permitted in all areas except the restaurant. Located on Wyle Cop, the hotel is a 10-minute walk from Shrewsbury train station, with local attractions like The Hive, Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery, and Theatre Severn within a 5-10 minute radius. The Adam Ballroom accommodates up to 200 guests for conferences or weddings, and secure on-site parking is available first-come, first-served.

Pros

The historic 16th-century architecture includes original features like log fires and a grand Doric portico entrance.

Dog-friendly policies allow pets in all areas except The Hayward Restaurant.

Central location provides easy access to Shrewsbury's key attractions, all within a 10-minute walk.

The Adam Ballroom and other event spaces support meetings, weddings, and conferences for up to 200 guests.

Cons

On-site parking operates on a first-come, first-served basis, which may limit availability during peak times.

Some rooms may retain historic quirks, such as uneven floors or limited soundproofing due to the building's age.

worn carpetsbetter soundproofing
The room i got was definitely showing its age. The carpets looked a bit worn. also, the noise was a problem. i could hear everything outside, especially early in the morning with bins being dragged. It really interrupted my sleep. i think some better soundproofing would work wonders. it would have been nice to sleep better.
