The Old Mill - A 15th-century riverside hotel with modern British dining and proximity to Salisbury Cathedral

The Old Mill, a 15th-century building with features dating back to 1250, stands in a peaceful location above three mill runs off the River Nadder. The award-winning Old Mill Restaurant serves modern British cuisine and a world wine list, with the dining area overlooking a mill run visible through a viewing panel. The cosy bedrooms each have a private bathroom, tea and coffee facilities, and some offer river views or overlook the mill pond. Guests at The Old Mill can access Salisbury city centre via a 10-minute walk through Harnham Meadows, placing landmarks like Salisbury Cathedral (1 km) and Queen Elizabeth Gardens (0.5 km) within easy reach. Free Wi-Fi is available in rooms, which feature flat-screen TVs and walk-in showers or baths with overhead showers. The bar area, with its classic English style, stone floor, and wood burner, contributes to the historic ambiance.

Review summary
Based on recent reviews

The Old Mill offers a special experience with its historic watermill setting and picturesque location near Salisbury, within walking distance of the city center. Guests often praise the delightful dining room with a stream running through it, as well as the fabulous breakfast and the alfresco meals by the river. The river view from some first-floor windows is also a highlight, though some guests have noted noise from other rooms due to the building's age. Many guests find it to be really good value for money, with extra touches like toiletries and biscuits adding to the appeal.

mixed experience, some issues

nice locationuseless tapstaff attitude
the location was nice, i spotted some wildlife outside the window.
the shower lacked hot water and staff didn't seem concerned. the mixer tap was useless. i've stayed in many hotels, and i will remember the staff's attitude and the shower problem.

The location was nice. It was close to the footpath through the fields.
The lack of hot water one morning was a disappointment. I could not shower before leaving (a 20% discount was offered, however).

the lack of readily available information in the room was inconvenient i had to search for basic details like the wi-fi code. breakfast service started later than scheduled. this caused a delay to my planned departure.
